A Year of Nintendo Switch

A Year Of Nintendo Switch

I can’t believe it’s been a year since I rushed out to Smyths Toys at midnight to pick up my Nintendo Switch. A year of Nintendo Switch and what a year it has been. Launching with the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was truly the best thing they could have done. What an incredible game. And since then, we’ve had a constant stream of AAA games including Splatoon 2 and Super Mario Odyssey to keep us entertained. Now that we move into our second year of Nintendo Switch, what can we expect? Here are my suggestions for where Nintendo can take the Nintendo Switch through 2018 and beyond.

Virtual Console

I’m pretty sure this is on everyone’s list. There are so many games on older consoles that I’d love to play but I just can’t be bothered setting the consoles up. How good would it be if you could buy and play classic Nintendo games on Switch? And I’m not taking NES and SNES classics but games from all consoles including N64, GameCube and Wii. We definitely need GameCube games, no GameCube game has ever appeared in a virtual console on any console. Make it happen Nintendo.

Media Apps

Nintendo consoles have never made much focus on entertainment apps. They are always predominantly a gaming console. But it would be cool to see media apps like Netflix, Amazon Video and Sky Go appear on Switch. I did use my Wii U gamepad for Netflix viewing when I used to use a VPN to access international versions of Netflix. Maybe I’ll be able to use it again on Switch?

The Return of Classic Franchises

Nintendo have so many amazing franchises in it’s library. We’ve had new entries in The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario so far, so how about new games in franchises that we don’t get enough games of? We haven’t had a new F Zero game in over 10 years or how about a brand new Kid Icarus game? I loved Kid Icarus Uprising on 3DS. I’ve been really wanting to play a strategy game recently and would LOVE a new Advance Wars game. The DS games were difficult but a lot of fun.

More 3rd Party Games

In the past, when multi-platform games were released, I’d always buy them Playstation because they were the superior versions. But now, Nintendo is in such a strong position with the Switch being portable that it’s is always going to my 1st choice when it comes to multi-platform titles. Like how awesome would it be to able to play Overwatch on the go? Or if the upcoming Spyro remaster came to Switch? 3rd parties really need to get with the times and stop limiting themselves to Playstation and Xbox alone.

What are you hoping to see on Nintendo Switch this year? Any games you desperately want to see? Let me know in the comments below and on social media too. Thanks for reading!
