It’s back! It’s back! It’s back! The best reality show on television is back and it’s time for the best of the best to compete for the crown. After the huge success of RuPaul’s Drag Race Allstars 2, it’s not surprising to see a 3rd season fast tracked. With 10 Queens returning, who are the early favourite for the crown and who are DOA? Let’s find out as we delve into the first RuPaul’s Drag Race Allstars 3 RuCap of the season.
It wasn’t surprising to see Trixie Mattel on the cast list. She’s become a huge name outside of the show. And here’s the thing – I like Trixie. I like her drag but I just don’t think she is funny. I found her underwhelming in season 7 and from the opening episode, I still don’t see much comedy. I always hope that she will prove me wrong because I want to like her. But for now, she’s not doing much for me.
During Milk’s time on season 6, I felt that her drag was a little ahead of it’s time. So initially when I heard of her inclusion in Allstars 3, I was excited to see her again. But the first episode has made me dislike her a little bit? She seems overly confident bordering on arrogant. Being a good looking boy behind the drag has maybe gone to her head a little bit? As for her talent show performance, I would have placed her in the bottom 2 instead of Chi Chi.
Chi Chi Devayne
I love Chi Chi Devayne. I was sad to see her not make the final of season 8. But what was that talent show performance? It was just a bit flat – and I don’t just mean her shoes. But you know what, at least she owned up to making a mistake. I like her attitude so I’m glad she was saved from elimination. Just don’t let me down again girl, I know you got it in you to be amazing!
I feel bad for Thorgy because there seems to be a lot of unwarranted hate towards her. I don’t get it. Yes, she was way too competitive with Bob during season 8 but so what? It’s a competition. I feel like Thorgy isn’t going to give her best in Allstars 3 as she’ll be holding back so as to not look too competitive again. I liked her talent show performance although I would have liked a little bit of comedy in there. I hope she stays in the competition for a while.
I didn’t enjoy Morgan McMichaels back in season 2 and after the first episode, nothing has changed 8 years on. She’s just too bitchy for me. Where other queens can be bitchy in a humorous or playful way, Morgan is just plain up bitchy. She looks gorgeous in drag but if the personality isn’t there, not much you can do. Also, she told Michelle Visage once that Scotland’s national drink was Lucozade and I mean, wtf right?!
The Brooklyn bitch from season 9 is back and she’s ready to make amends. Aja did not come across great during her season – she was cocky, too loud and her runway looks were borderline disaster. But she’s learned, looks so much better and humbled by her experience on the show. Her talent show performance was fun to watch and her lip sync for her legacy was wig snatch worthy. I’m surprised by how much I enjoyed her. Let’s hope she keeps delivering.
Ben Dela Creme
Everyone forget how amazing Ben Dela Creme was during season 6. She always delivered amazing looks, her Snatch Game performance was iconic and she was always herself. The fact that she was beaten by Darienne Lake (twice) is a joke. It’s great to see her again and in that first episode, she was freaking hilarious. Her talent show performance had me in stitches and her lip-sync to ‘Anaconda’ was even funnier! Ben is my pick for winner already!
Kennedy Davenport was a funny one during her season. She was undoubtedly talented but some of her runways were atrocious. Remember that awful bejewelled chicken outfit? The worst I’ve ever seen on that runway. And her workroom entrance look says to me that her taste hasn’t improved much. It was just too much – wayyyyy too much! But then there was her talent show performance with that jump onto the box! Holy crap! I literally gasped! How the hell did she do that?! I hope Kennedy continues to give us those wow moments while also showing some better runway looks.
Halleloo, she’s back! There’s been a lot of chatter about whether Shangela should be back since she was in both seasons 2 and 3. But I think it’s fine, that was such a long time ago and she’s improved so much. She is undoubtedly an Allstar outside of the show. Even just her workroom entrance look was better than everything she ever showcased on the show before. Shangela is an incredibly charismatic and funny Queen so I’m looking forward to seeing her shine once again.
Bebe Sahara Bennett
The surprise 10th queen introduced to the competition, Bebe Sahara Bennett is the first ever winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race. Firstly, I’m shook that it’s almost been 10 years since the show began. Secondly, Bebe looked STUNNING in her workroom entrance look. She looked incredibly regal and really showed all the other girls how it’s done. There is a lot of chat about whether a winner should be taking part in Allstars but I think it’s fantastic to have Bebe back. Season 1 cannot be streamed anywhere so it’s right to give the OG winner a reintroduction. I just hope if she doesn’t win, that it doesn’t tarnish her season 1 win.
