Turning a house into a home

Turning A House Into A Home – My 2018 Decorating Goals

I’ve now been living in my house for almost 3 years and can you believe that I’m still not finished with the decorating? My husband and I did make some progress in 2017, finally getting our living and 3 bedrooms painted. But there is still so much to do and 2018 is the year that we’re going to get it done. I’ve spent countless hours poring over images on Instagram and Pinterest looking for ideas and thought I’d share them with you guys what I’m planning with my 2018 decorating goals.

Room 1 – The Living Room

The living room was the first room that I had decorated back in April 2017. I wanted the room to feel warm, inviting and cosy and I think we achieved that. With an ochre yellow feature wall, it’s definitely bright and inviting which is very ‘us’. Everything we’ve done in the living room so far has just clicked together – the sofa and furniture really match the colours and it feels like a modern living room while still having our personalities in there. Maybe just needs a little bit of Pikachu to get our personalities in there a bit more? The living room really just needs those final touches, those things that make the room pop such as photo frames, mirrors etc.

Room 2 – The Hallway

The hallway is the only part of the house that is still to be decorated. To be honest, we really don’t know what we want to do with it. I’d like to keep it neutral since this is the part of the house that connects to each room in the house. Each room has it’s own colour and feel so I’d like the hallway to be the ‘Switzerland’ of the house. We both absolutely hate the handrail on our staircase so that needs to go and I think we would paper the staircase wall as well as put some photos up. A piece of art in the hallway to bring some colour in and I’d like an unit beside the front door where shoes can go. Here is my moodboard for the hallway.

Room 3 – The Second Bedroom

We had this room painted back in September – a red cherry feature wall with light grey on the other three. But how to furnish it? We do have a bed for this room for when people stay but I’ve always wanted a room where I could go and chill with a good book. A room away from all technology. So I was thinking of maybe getting a sofa bed for this room – it will give me the relaxing area I need to chill but still have somewhere for people to sleep when they stay. Glossyhome have a good range of contemporary sofa beds so I’m definitely going to check them out along with the usual furniture stores.

As you can see, I have a lot of thoughts and ideas. The problem always is converting these ideas into a full picture in my head. Do you have any decorating plans for your home in 2018? Let me know in the comments and as always, thanks for reading.

    Thanks Bry,

I’m looking forward to actually having a fully decorated house. Steven and I are so slow with these things! Almost 3 years in our house and still got bare white walls haha
