Wow, that was long hot summer wasn’t it?! But it’s now over, autumn is finally here and I am so happy to see my old friend. I’m a fan of all the months that end in ‘ber’ so from now until the end of the year, I’m going to be in my element for sure. For a lot of people, September is a bit of a bleurgh month for a number of reasons. Summer is over and Halloween is still ages away but I LOVE September for a number of reasons. So I thought I’d share what I’m up to this month on the blog in this months ‘Liam Loves’ feature.
IT’S A BIRTHDAY BONANZA
Everybody loves their birthday month right? It’s the one day of the year where it’s all about you and nobody else. Unless you have family/friends who have the same birthday as you and in that case, they need to get another birthday as I don’t share! This year, I will be 31 and sure I’m not fussed about getting older but I’ve finally accepted that I’m not in my twenties anymore. I spent a good part of last year freaking out about leaving my twenties and it was so stupid. Your thirties are just like your twenties but better – I have financial stability and am more comfortable in my skin. So I’m looking forward to just enjoying my birthday without the pressure I felt last year. I’ve decided to forego the usual ‘my plans for the year ahead‘ post because I write them with all these good intentions and then end up taking naps for most of the year. Plus with this blog coming to a close at the end of the year, I just want to focus on writing relevant content for the remaining time.
September is not just about my birthday now though as it will also be my nephew Archie’s first birthday. Yes that’s right, my nephew has totally stolen my birthday month. Our birthdays are only a few days apart and last year, I was fully expecting him to be born on my 30th so he could steal the spotlight. I’m not sure what the plan is for his birthday as my brother and future sister-in-law are very busy planning their wedding. I don’t see my nephew a lot since we live in different cities so I am looking forward to heading home to see him on his birthday.
Comic Con Scotland
Comic Con Scotland is back for another year of festivities where you can buy tons of amazing geeky goodies while dressed up as your favourite comic book characters. I’ve gone to MCM Comic Con nearly every year since it began and it’s a fun day for all. I think it’s amazing how creative people are with their costumes. The first year I attended, there were 3 women dressed up as the Sanderson sisters from the movie ‘Hocus Locus’ and their outfits were absolutely incredible. I wish I was that creative. I tried to paint myself as a pumpkin once for Halloween and I looked like a tangoed panda.
Aside from the great cosplayers, Comic Con also has tons of stalls selling lots of amazing goodies from retro video games to Pokémon plushies to Japanese candy. I tend to not buy much because while a lot of it is super cool, it only ends up getting shoved in a box in my spare room. The Japanese candy is SO good though so that’s worth going for alone. If you fancy going, there are still tickets available for both the Saturday and Sunday. You can buy them from the official MCM Comic Con website.
Getting Golden With Kylie Minogue
I used to go to so many gigs growing up and I’m trying to get back into going to them again. I’m always like ‘eurgh, I just want to stay home in my pyjamas’ but once you’re there, you have a great time. So I saw Britney last month (which was amazing btw) and this month, it’s time for the Queen – Kylie Minogue. I last saw Kylie live way back in 2011 on her Aphrodite tour which was honestly the best concert I’ve ever been to. My friend Joanne and I somehow managed to get right at the very front of the standing so we had an incredible view without the need to stand on our tip toes. The production was incredible, Kylie was on top form and the hits just kept coming.
I’m not sure what to expect from Kylie this time round since she’s gone more in the country pop direction with her latest album ‘Golden’ but I’m sure she’ll still dazzle us none the less. I’m going with my mum this time who I don’t think has seen Kylie live since the Greatest Hits tour back in 2005. We’re both looking forward to it a lot.
Now can you understand why I’m excited for September? What are your plans for this wonderful Autumnal month? Let me know in the comments below and as always, thanks for reading.
