It’s been a couple of month now since Nintendo released the Switch to huge success. And it’s had a steady stream of games since launch meaning that I’ve rarely put the console down. With E3 now only a few weeks away, Nintendo will be busy preparing it’s reveals for this years event. What can we expect? It’s a pretty big year for Nintendo who will be looking to solidify Switches success and avoid the mistakes of the Wii U. Virtual console is bound to be announced as will more details of their online offering. But what of new games? Here are the games that I’d love to see announced at this years event.
01. Metroid Prime 4
Like seriously Nintendo, we have been begging for this game for YEARS. Did you know that it’s been ten years since the last entry in the ‘Prime’ series? Ten long years! The less said about that terrible ‘Other M’ game the better. Ten years since we’ve had a proper Metroid title on a home console. The Switch is probably the perfect console for the Metroid series with the intuitive Joy-Con controllers. Make it happen Nintendo!
02. Rogue Squadron
Look, I know this is going to be a long shot but I can dream okay! I absolutely loved the Star Wars: Rogue Squadron game on the Nintendo 64. My parents wouldn’t buy me it so I had to keep renting it from Blockbuster when I was a kid … memories. That title and the GameCube sequel are still the best games to play if you want to fly an X-Wing, honestly the Battlefront games on Playstation wish they were this good. A proper Star Wars shooter with a solid single player storyline and online battle mode, it would be bliss. Such a pity that the Factor 5 developers are no longer around.
03. Pokémon Stars
The Pokémon games have always been best fitted to Nintendo’s handheld consoles due to their portability. But now with the Nintendo Switch, there is absolutely no excuse for them to not make the jump and give us a fully realised 3D Pokémon title. Imagine the possibilities of playing a game like Pokémon Sun/Moon with the power of the Switch and STILL be able to play it on the go! It’s going to happen, it’s just a case of when?
04. Super Mario Maker
Super Mario Maker for Wii U was such a brilliant game that you had to wonder why Nintendo hadn’t thought of it sooner. Allowing users to create their own Super Mario levels and share them online – it was great fun. The 3DS version was lacking some of the Wii U features so it would be good to have the full experience and still be able to play anywhere.
I would always list Okami as one of my favourite games ever but I’ve never actually completed it. This is because the game always reminds me of my dog Loughlin who sadly died a few years ago. Okami is such a stunning game, to this day it still takes me breath away. Nintendo seems like such a perfect fit for an Okami sequel with it’s unique art style. Nintendo gave us a sequel to Bayonetta so a sequel to one of the most critically acclaimed games ever isn’t out of the question.
There are tons of games that I’d love for Nintendo to announce at E3 this year. Pikmin 4, Super Mario Galaxy remasters, Captain Toad sequel and many more. Most of it will never happen but we can still dream right? What do you want to see Nintendo release for the Switch? Let me know in the comments below and as always, thanks for reading.
