There are now less than 20 days until Christmas is here and I don’t know about you but it feels like it’s come out of nowhere. I’m usually about 95% done my Christmas shopping by this point but I still have TONS to do. Every year, I try to do a different theme for Christmas. Usually, it’s a case of getting cards, wrapping paper, gift bags etc all in a similar colour scheme. But this year, I’ve decided to do things a bit different. Find out what I’m up to and all the essentials this Christmas with my essential Christmas Gift Guide.
So what is my theme this year? Shopping small business. Did you know shopping small business benefits into your local economy a lot more than it does shopping with big business? Shopping in small business is also a lot more appreciated than it is with these huge multinational businesses. Also, I am super sick of hearing about all these huge corporations getting away with tax evasion. So they aren’t getting my hard earned cash anymore. No sir, I’m supporting small businesses across the UK. That being said, it’s not been easy finding gifts for everyone. But here are a few things I’ve found which I think would make great gifts for your loved ones this Christmas.
Everybody loves getting some smelly stuff at Christmas right? It’s pretty much a given that you’ll get something like that but it doesn’t need to be the generic deodorant sets out of Boots. I was introduced to Sia Bann via a sponsored Instagram post and I really like what they offer. I really love the packaging and it’s a good range of products with a particularly good range for gifts for guys. So if you’re looking for something for a dad or brother then I’d give Sia Bann’s ‘Bearr Man‘ range a look.
Unfortunately, I was unable to attend this years Etsy Made Local event in Glasgow as I was in Paris. But that didn’t stop me from checking out all the sellers attending and NaturalBeasties was one of my faves. Why? MONSTER SOAP! I absolutely love the look of their felted monster soap which I think would be fantastic wee gifts to go in children’s stockings. I particularly loved the yellow one as it’s so bright and colourful.
For those of us who are Christmas mad then Jilly Jilly is the perfect stop for you. From badges to mugs, earrings to notebooks, everything on JillyJilly is made by the incredibly talented team in Fife. I bought a Christmas mug from them last year and I absolutely love it.
In fact, if you see anything you like then you can get 15% off your order with my code ‘liamslifeuk’.
The Game Collection
For those gamers out there, it’s kind of difficult to shop small business since small video game businesses don’t really exist anymore. But you can still avoid the biggies such as Amazon and GAME and instead shop at The Game Collection. I’ve used them for years and not only do they tend to be the cheapest out there for games but they always deliver super quick.
I know what you’re thinking right now – “Groupon isn’t small business” but hear me out! A large number of offers on Groupon are from small and local businesses using the service to reach audiences they otherwise couldn’t on their own. There’s a wide range of goods on offer this Christmas at Groupon but my personal fave is the ‘Donal Trump loo roll‘. If only we could do that to him in real life. You can see more of Groupon’s Xmas range by clicking here.
Green Loch Chocolates
And last but certainly not least – the chocolate purchases. Every year, there’s always those last few people that you rush out to a supermarket and just buy sweets for. Tubs of Celebrations, some Matchmakers or shortbread. But this year, I want to be a bit more imaginative hence why I’ll be ordering my chops from Green Loch Chocolates. It is a little pricey but I would rather pay a little more so that someone could have something a little bit different chocolate wise this year rather than the usual from Asda or Thorntons. I just need to remember that the Sea Salt Caramels are not for me!
The Pet Place
But let’s not forget that Christmas isn’t just about us mere humans. You’ve got to get something for our beloved pets too and there’s no better place than The Pet Place. Based in Giffnock, The Pet Place sells a wide range of goods for dog, cats, small animals and more. I’ll be heading there to stock up on Pawsecco for literally every dog and cat in my life. I love animals more than people in case you didn’t know.
It’s certainly not been easy to find everything I’ve wanted through small business. Mainly because small businesses don’t have the same amount of power and finance to aggressively promote themselves online like the big places do. But perhaps by promoting and shopping in small business, we can balance the scales and help small business thrive across the UK.
Do you have any small businesses that you love shopping in? Let me know in the comments below and happy shopping!
