Since their creation on reality show ‘SIXTEEN’, TWICE have gone on to not only conquer South Korea but gain legions of fans across the world. It’s safe to say that they are going to be the top girl group of this generation of K-Pop. Now as they release their first Japanese album ‘BDZ’, their 3rd release of 2018 and 12th overall, they’ve certainly racked up quite the discography. So without further ado, here are the best TWICE songs for newbies and ONCE’s alike to enjoy.
10. Do It Again
From their debut EP ‘The Story Begins’, I love Do It Again just because of how bold it is. TWICE really don’t hold back on this track, it’s ball to the walls pop, a call to arms to show the world that they are a force to be reckoned with.
The lead single from their first full length album ‘Twicetgram’, Likey initially took a bit of time to grow on me. I feel like the production is a bit more polished on this track compared to most of their other singles. The chorus is super catchy and both Jihyo and Jeongyeon in particular sound great. My favourite part is probably Naeyeon’s final verse leading into Dahyun’s rap.
08. Love Line
An album track from ‘Twicetagram’, Love Line ticks all the boxes for me when it comes to delivering a cute synth pop number. That chorus is just so infectious and the vocals sound really nice over the synths and beats.
07. What Is Love?
‘What Is Love’ is in my opinion, their best song production wise. I feel like every time I listen to this, I pick up new beats and little moments in the production that help make this song shine. The choreography for this song is also really good, I can’t help but do it whenever I listen to this track. My only gripe in this song is that Naeyeon sounds a little screechy towards the end. And there’s not enough Mina. Give me more Mina!
Another album track from ‘Twicetagram’, this track was pretty instant for me. Sometimes there is nothing better than a bit of glitzy straight up pop. It’s all about the chorus which I love so much as it’s lead by Jihyo who is my favourite member.
05. Dance The Night Away
I’m sure some people will be shocked that this one is so high but I love summery pop music okay! Their most recent Korean single and their first Summer release, Dance The Night Away is a pretty basic song but that’s part of the appeal. It’s super summery, super catchy and honestly that’s all I need from them.
Probably their most popular song, I didn’t click with ‘TT’ until a year after release. I enjoy the vocal delivery a lot by each of the members in particular Jeongyeon and Mina. All TWICE songs need more MINA! My favourite part is the rap verse between Dahyun and Chaeyoung, it has great energy! I think if TWICE were to attempt to break the Western market, this would be their best single to debut with.
This was a pretty divisive release and their only single (that I know of) that was written by their boss, JYP himself. I like that the verses have this sort of chant to them before building up to the super infectious bridge and chorus. By the time it gets to the second chorus, Signal is in it’s prime and it’s got me hooked.
02. Knock Knock
‘Knock Knock’ was the track that got me into TWICE. I remember hearing a small snippet of the production and knowing instantly that I was going to love it. It’s probably their most Western sounding single, it ticks all the boxes for the perfect girl group single. My only minor gripe is the vocal production towards the end. The adlibs sound out of tune but thankfully they are pretty faded into the production so they don’t actually detract from the song.
01. Like Ooh Aah
I honestly don’t think TWICE could have debuted with a better single than ‘Like Ooh Aah’. It perfectly showcases each members abilities and gives each member time to shine – something that can’t be easy in a nine member group. Jihyo, Mina and Tzuyu are stand outs for me here. Like Ooh Aah is also packed full of attitude which is something that I think TWICE need a bit more of. I’d love to see them tackle this sound again and do a girl crush concept.
And those are my favourite TWICE songs? Agree with my list or are you looking at this thinking where the hell is ‘Cheer Up’?. Well let me know in the comments and on social media too!
