I didn’t go to the cinema a whole lot in 2017. I used to go to the cinema a lot when I was still a student and honestly, I miss those days. Having a look at movies coming out this year, there’s a lot I really want to see. So to ensure that I actually go, I’ve ordered an Odeon Limitless card so that I make sure to go and get my moneys worth. But what about the movies coming out over the next 12 months? Here are my most anticipated movies of 2018.
The third instalment in the ‘Cloverfield’ franchise, I didn’t even know this movie existed until I started writing this blog. While I wasn’t a big fan of the first ‘Cloverfield’ movie, I loved ’10 Cloverfield Lane’ so I have high expectations for this one. Each movie has absolutely no ties to the other so I’m intrigued to see how this plays out. It involves astronauts and an experiment gone wrong so it’s already ticking boxes for me. If it’s anything like the movie ‘Life’ then I’ll love it.
God Particle hits cinemas on February 2nd.
The first superhero movie of a pretty packed 2018 and the only superhero solo movie that I’m truly stoked for. There are so many superhero films now that I’m finding myself less and less excited with each release. Black Panther breaks that trend because it looks so completely different from everything else coming out. It seems to be more in line with the Captain America films in terms of gripping storytelling and development and less about forced gags like Guardians of the Galaxy.
Black Panther hits cinemas on February 16th.
‘Pacific Rim’ was probably the surprise hit for me back in 2013. I thought it looked incredibly lame based on the trailers but ended up loving it. Now we’re back with a sequel and this time it’s up to John Boyega to take down the big bad monsters. Basically, this is a dumb action movie but the visuals will be top notch and sometimes, that’s all you need.
Pacific Rim: Uprising hits cinemas on March 23rd.
As I mentioned earlier, I’m having a bit of superhero fatigue so in order for a film in that genre to grab my attention, it’s got to stand out. Avengers: Infinity War definitely stands out because we’re reaching the end of the big story when Thanos comes to Earth seeking the Infinity Stones. We’ve seen the stones throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe so I’m looking forward to finally seeing the end of this story. Also, I totally think Captain America is going to get killed off.
Avengers: Infinity War hits cinemas on May 4th.
Solo:A Star Wars Story
I wasn’t 100% sure whether to include this film or not because 1) I haven’t seen a trailer, 2) I know nothing about the plot and 3) I’m not a massive Han Solo fan like most. But it’s also Star Wars and I LOVE everything Star Wars. Starring Alden Ehrenreich as the infamous smuggler, the rumour is that the plot will follow Han as he helps to free Chewbacca from Imperial slavery. It definitely has potential, just weird that there’s been no trailer yet and it’s out in a few months.
Solo: A Star Wars Story hits cinemas on May 25th.
Deadpool was another film that I wasn’t bothered about seeing. I’m not a fan of gory violence so Deadpool didn’t seem like my kind of movie. But my husband LOVES Deadpool and surprisingly so did I. The sequel looks like it’s set to be much of the same – lots of violence, lots of humour and lots of bad language. Exactly what I’m looking for!
Deadpool 2 hits cinemas on June 1st.
The Incredibles 2
It’s been 14 years since The Incredibles were last on our screens so it’s definitely been a long time coming for the sequel. The story sounds like it starts not long after the end of the first movie with Elastigirl out fighting crime with Mr Incredible staying at home to watch the kids. Pixar films are always full of heart so I know this is going to be great.
The Incredibles 2 hits cinemas on June 15th.
The Purge: The Island
I can remember the first time I came across ‘The Purge’ movie. There were posters promoting it all over my town. I thought the concept of one night where everything is legal really interesting and thankfully so have the creators who have given us 3 brilliant movies. I love that each movie is a different genre. We’ve had home invasion, class wars and political thriller. Now we’re going back in time to find out how the purge came to be. It’s all newcomers in the cast too which I am glad about. I’m glad they didn’t start getting big A-List names in just because the movies are successful.
The Purge: The Island hits cinemas on July 4th.
Crazy Rich Asians
Based on the novel by Kevin Kwan, Crazy Rich Asians is a comedy movie where the main characters travels to Singapore and ends up thrust into the world of the rich and famous. Basically this stars Constance Wu who I absolutely love in the show ‘Fresh Off The Boat’. So I pretty much want to see this just for her. She’s hilarious!
Crazy Rich Asians hits cinemas on August 17th.
Ralph Breaks The Internet
Wreck It Ralph is one of my favourite animated movies. Ever. It’s funny with interesting characters, brilliant worlds and full of heart. It’s also incredibly quotable, my husband and I quote lines to each other all the time. For the sequel, Ralph and Vanellope Von Schweetz are now loose on the Internet which means lots of fun adventures for us!
Ralph Breaks The Internet hits cinemas on November 21st.
These are the 10 movies that I’m most excited to see in 2018. There are more including X-Men, Halloween and more. What movies are you excited to see this year? Let me know in the comments below.
