Getting Festive With A Weekend in Paris

I have been very lucky to have been able to go on some incredible holidays. But there is one place that I go back to year on year and that is Paris. I don’t really know what it is but there is just something about Paris that I find so captivating. I love everything about Paris – the architecture, the people, the food – everything. And obviously, I’m a big Disney fan so the fact that Disneyland is there is a big plus too. Despite having been in 2005, 2014 and 2016, never once have I been to Paris in the Winter for the festive season. And since it was my 30th in September and also Disney’s 25th anniversary, it felt right to FINALLY go to Disneyland Paris during the Christmas season. This was a holiday with friends so the hubby was left at home for the weekend. Since there were 6 of us in the group, we opted to book an apartment opposed to staying in a hotel. So once we landed in Paris and had gotten into the city, our first point of call was finding where to collect the keys. Google Streetview had shown us that it was a strip club (!!!) but thankfully that was not the case. We did stand banging on a big garage door thinking that was the entrance when the man in the office literally next door came out and got us. Very embarrassing! We weren’t able to check in until 4 so it was time to dump our cases and go for a wander.

First stop was the Arc De Triomphe and the Champs De Elysee for some touristy pictures and a bite to eat. I’ve seen the Arc De Triomphe several times now but I’m never not in awe of it’s beauty. For lunch, we went into a lovely restaurant just off the Champs De Elysee called the Washington Poste. 3 courses for €26 which is fantastic. Camembert, pizza and creme brûlée. I was in heaven! My friend Stephen had snails which I think was an experience for him.

And then it was time to go check out our apartment. I was a little apprehensive as some of the reviews weren’t great. It’s in the middle of the red light district as well so I was having visions of prostitutes all around our apartment. Thankfully that wasn’t the case though and the apartment was actually fine. It’s a little worn in places but it was fine for the 6 of us since we were spending such little time there. With 2 bedrooms, it meant 2 to a bed and 2 on the sofa bed. I was sharing my friend Gemma who is a bit of a fart-aholic but that’s also a description that applies to everyone in our group.

The second day was the big day – Disneyland Paris. This may have been my 5th time at Disneyland but honestly, it never gets old! I’ve always wanted to go to Disneyland at Christmas time so seeing it all festive was honestly a dream come true. I don’t think I’ve ever felt more than festive than I did on that day. It was also absolutely freezing and drizzling for most of the day but that wasn’t going to stop me from having fun. Both parks were super packed so we did only manage a few rides but it was just great to be there once again. It was also the first time I’ve been where all the rides were open so I made sure to do the ones I’ve only ever done once. I was also determined to do all the Star Wars rides which meant Hyperspace Mountain and Star Tours. Hyperspace was incredible and absolutely my favourite of the day. Star Tours was great too but made me feel a little queasy. But it also included The Last Jedi content so OH MY GOD!

And then it was time to shop. This is when the highlight of my trip happened. My friend Gemma and I were on Main Street about to go into a store when suddenly all the lights on the street went super bright. We were like what’s going on and then it started snowing! It was totally awesome! It was a wonderful end to a brilliant day.

The Monday was pretty much just a travel day. And while I may be glad to be home, I’m also sad to have said goodbye to Paris once again. I’m not sure when I’ll next be back but hopefully it won’t be too long. Paris truly is one of the most gorgeous cities in the world. If you’ve never been, I suggest you remedy that immediately.
